Hand-cast of plaster made from the earth in Malta, these Sleeping Goddesses--sometimes called the Sleeping Lady, or the Resting Lady-- are one of a kind. The colors vary slightly from one to another, due to the hand-crafted plaster process that doesn't create "standardized" coloration.
Unlike the mass-produced replicas sold in Maltese museums and souvenir shops, they are un-tinted and unglazed. This is the coloration the original would have had, when carved from the local limestone 5000 years ago!
The Sleeping Goddess was found at the archeological dig at the Hal Safleini Hypogeum -- an underground temple and burial site, famous for it's Oracle Chamber. Archeologists note the statue was covered with red ochre. Included with your purchase, is a small amount of red ochre sourced here in the USA. It would be a beautiful ritual to brush her with the dry red ochre, perhaps mixed with dry soil from your location. You can repeat this as often as you like, but I recommend monthly on DARK MOONS, as the Sleeping Goddess is an underworld, dreaming, betwixt & between Goddess, so associated with that lunar phase.
Remember though--this plaster-cast statue is unglazed, so do not paint her, glaze her, or get her wet!
