This female figure was found buried beneath a heavy stone step carved with the spiral motif at the Temple at Ħaġar Qim,

Located high along the cliffs overlooking the sea, Ħaġar Qim, is estimated to have been built 4700 years, ago.
Unlike other Maltese Goddesses from that time period, the Venus is a study in fine line and shape.
The Ħaġar Qim Temple site was a solar, lunar and stellar observatory, as well as a site of worship.  On Summer Solstice, one may observe the sun rising through the door-way. But, wait! That's not all! There is also a Lunar Window, where one can track the rising full moon certain times of year, and seven small punctures in the 4-5' stone walls, which allow the light of the Seven Sisters (Pleides) to fall across the temple floor as they pass!

This Venus is hand-cast in unglazed terra-cotta, and measures 3.5"H x 2.25"W x 1.25"D. Avoid getting her wet, as she is unglazed!
All orders received between 10/24 and 10/31--as we are on holiday in observance of Samhain. Items will ship 11/2. Do not let this keep you from placing your order. These are limited in number and will sell out.

(NOTE:  Expect a terra cotta color, as seen in the first two images--shown on floral background. The 4th image--shown on pedestal--was taken of the original artifact at the Malta Museum of Archeology.  The posterior image in this collection is over-exposed, showing her much paler than she actually is!)
